The National Junior Robotics Competition 2005 or NJRC 2005 is organized by the Singapore Science Centre and supported by the Ministry of Education, the Agency for Science Technology and Research (A*STAR) and Singapore Totalisator Board.
Last year, the NJRC attracted more than 856 teams, from more than 60% of all the primary and secondary schools in Singapore, to participate in the 6-day mega-event. The overwhelming feedback and anticipation from the schools have truly encouraged us to make this year's NJRC 2005 an even bigger and better event than last year! In fact, there will be more Awards up for grabs in NJRC 2005.
The NJRC is all about problem-solving skills, through the creative thinking and independent learning of students. The competition uses the LEGO MINDSTORMS Robotics kit and students take on the challenge of
(1) assembling a robot;
(2) programming the robot;
(3) designing a web page;
(4) conducting research;
(5) building team spirit and
(6) out-performing the other robots.
Ultimately, the teams will present their entire learning process in the form of a team Journal. The top prize, the Championship Award, will be presented to the team with the best overall performance and learning experience.
During the course of the competition, the NJRC will provide an excellent opportunity for students to interact with their peers, teachers and judges, who are from tertiary institutions and various industries. The NJRC is about celebrating the process of learning through interactive, meaningful experiences.
